Our History

1998 - 2008

From 1999-2008, Nathan Brown served as a youth basketball coach for underprivileged kids in Southeast Colorado Springs. Growing up, the Hillside Community Center and the game of  basketball saved his son, Terrell Brown, from falling victim to the environment he grew up in. After overcoming several obstacles both athletically and personally, Terrell was determined to return home and use sports as a tool to convene and empower youth.

MARCH 12, 2017

Hillside Connection was founded on March 12, 2017, to “leverage the game of basketball to create pathways to opportunity for kids in Southern Colorado Springs. During the beginning stages, youth boys (grades 1st-5th) were brought together to develop resiliency, teamwork, and leadership skills. Youth participated in basketball clinics, enrichment activities, community engagement opportunities, and basketball leagues while being exposed to leaders throughout the Pikes Peak Region.

looking forward

Since inception, more than 500+ youth have participated in HC programming. Our organization serves youth boys & girls (grades 1st-8th) with a strategic focus on enhancing “pathways programming” for our current high school participants. All programming is donated based. Scholarships are available for all youth! By strengthening relationships with public, non-profit, and private organizations, Hillside Connection continues to provide youth with opportunities that extend beyond the basketball court and into other parts of the community!
