Our Objective

Empowering Youth Above and Beyond SPORT

Led by Terrell Brown, a group of community residents serves as coaches and mentors to youth boys (grades 1st - 6th).  Youth participate in basketball clinics, enrichment activities, community engagement opportunities, and basketball leagues. Programming is provided free of charge. Thanks to connections with leaders in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors, kids and families are exposed to the broader community.

Our Four-Tiered Approach

  1. Basketball Clinics

Youth boys (grades 1st - 6th) are provided  a free opportunity to develop fundamental basketball skills. Winter, Spring, and Summer clinics are held at the Hillside Community Center (925 S. Institute, Colorado Springs CO 80903) for 5 weeks.

2. Enrichment Activities

Youth boys benefit from a variety of fun experiences. Past enrichment activities included trips to the Olympic Training Center, Fine Arts Center, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Broadmoor World Arena, Pikes Peak Center,  and Tinseltown Movie Theatre. Youth also participated in the Denver Broncos Junior Training Camp.

3. Community Engagement

We are determined to positively influence the lives of youth, guardians, and community residents by volunteering for local organizations, attending community events, and assisting with community projects.  Past community engagement activities included painting lines and installing hoops at Memorial Park, volunteering at Colorado Springs Sports Corporations’ “Color in Motion 5k”, stuffing backpacks with Colorado Springs Utilities staff for our  “Back to School Drive” and more.

4. Summer Basketball League

From late May until the end of June, Hillside Connection hosts a free Summer Basketball League at Memorial Park for 4th and 5th grade boys in Southern Colorado Springs. This unique 5 week experience includes jerseys, volunteer coaches and referees, a championship bracket, and guest speakers!

My son has become an honor roll student, reliable friend, and a better example for other kids in our Southeast Community. Hillside Connection is EMPOWERING our youth above and beyond the game of basketball!
